Limpopo prison warder in court for rape

A 41-year old prison warder has been arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year old girl at Madombidzha, outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo.

The suspect who works at the Kutama Sinthumule correctional services centre as a Custodial Officer is alleged to have abducted the girl at gunpoint and taken her to a lodge where he raped her.

The incident took place on June 23.

Police spokesperson, Moatshe Ngoepe says an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

The suspect has briefly appeared before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court.

He will make his second appearance at the Louis Trichard Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Traffic authorities appeal to ZCC pilgrims to exercise patience

Some motorists travelling on the R71 between Moria and Polokwane in Limpopo have applauded traffic authorities for controlling traffic flow along the heavily congested road.

Thousands of motorists are travelling to various destinations from Moria following the ZCC’s annual Easter pilgrimage. These drivers say they expect to take longer than normal to reach their destinations.

“I’m going to Venda maybe plus-minus 4 hours from here to Venda, because there is a lot of traffic and the traffic cops also are looking at each and every corners… I believe everything is gonna be fine.”

There is moderate traffic congestion on the R71 in Mankweng, outside Polokwane, Limpopo, as thousands of ZCC pilgrims make their way from Moria following the church’s Easter sermon.

Traffic officials are controlling traffic at many intersections in Moria and Mankweng. Hundreds of busses and small vehicles started lining up on the busy R71 at 5 o’clock after the church service has ended.

Many of the motorists are making their way to the N1 south bound en route to Gauteng and other destinations.

Limpopo traffic authorities are appealing to motorists who will be travelling on the province’s busy routes over night to exercise patience.

The N1 southbound and the R71 will be heavily congested as ZCC pilgrims make their way from Moria following the church’s annual Easter pilgrimage.

Traffic spokesperson Matome Tauatsoala says officers are on hand to ensure that all motorists reach their destinations.

 

Traffic is expected to peak on Monday.

Limpopo police launch manhunt after business robbery in Phalaborwa

Police in Phalaborwa, Limpopo are searching for a group of armed suspects who allegedly robbed a filling station in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police say about nine suspects allegedly robbed the filling station and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe is urging anyone with information to assist in tracing the suspects.

Ngoepe  says a manhunt is underway by a dedicated team of police from police units in Phalaborwa for the group of armed suspects who were part of the business robbery which occurred at a petrol garage at the Phalaborwa CBD.

“During the process of this business robbery they also hijacked another car belonging to a client, but later that hijacked car was found abandoned we are therefore calling upon all members of the community who might be aware or know who the suspects are to contact brigadier James Espag at 082 576 0743,” says Ngoepe .
