Alliance partners of the African National Congress (ANC), the South African Communist Party (SACP) and Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have used the Nelson Mandela centennial celebrations in Cape Town to vent their unhappiness about president Jacob Zuma’s continued stay in office.

Cosatu’s second Deputy president Zingiswa Losi says the labour federation has long pronounced on Zuma.

“We want the ANC that is going to put the issue of jobs at the center of their own mandate… We also want the leadership of the ANC to fight corruption without fear or favour. Cosatu is also saying amongst the issues that the leadership must further deal with is the issue of Cosatu on the recall of president Zuma.”

SACP provincial secretary Benson Ngqentsu says the President of the country is entangled in numerous allegations of corruption.

“We are saying this centenary must represent nothing but the reclaiming of the city of Cape Town and the legislature. It must represent the organisational renewal of the ANC… and we are saying for as long as the ANC continues to keep corrupt people within its ranks, the whole question of renewal remains meaningless. The SACP wants to register its message, to say the longer you keep President Zuma, the worse for our people, and the worse for our revolution.”
