African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa has appealed to the membership of his party to draw inspiration from the wisdom of late struggle icon, Nelson Mandela when they confront the issue of the future of President Jacob Zuma as Head of state.
Speaking outside the Grand Parade, from the same balcony where Nelson Mandela spoke after his release from Victor Verster prison in 1990, Ramaphosa told thousands of the party faithful that Zuma’s exit should be handled with care.
“As the leadership of the African National Congress, we are currently engaged in discussions around the transition to a new administration, and specifically, to resolve the issue of the position of the President of the Republic of South Africa. It is therefore important that we should manage the discussions that are underway with care and purpose, ensuring that we put the interest of South Africa first. It’s therefore important that we should draw deep from Madiba’s wisdom and Madiba’s style of doing things, in an orderly manner, in a purposeful manner… we’re doing all this with the key of uniting all our people.”
Ramaphosa called for a decision that will unite the party.
